When you unlock a Neuron vehicle, a temporary pre-authorisation hold is placed on your payment method to ensure sufficient funds are available for your ride. The hold amount is $6 (CA, AU and NZ) or £3 (UK) for a single ride, and $10 (CA, AU and NZ) or £5 (UK) for a group ride.
This hold is not an actual charge and will be adjusted once your trip ends.
When your ride finishes, the final fare is calculated and processed as follows:
-
If your trip fare is less than or equal to the pre-authorisation amount:
The final fare is charged from the pre-authorised amount, and any remaining balance is released back to your bank account. -
If your trip fare exceeds the pre-authorisation amount:
The pre-authorisation amount is captured, and the additional amount owed is charged on top of the pre-authorisation in the same transaction.
For example, if a $6 pre-authorisation was placed and the final fare is $10, the system will capture the $6 and charge the additional $4 at the end of the trip.
Please note that although released funds are returned immediately by our system, your bank or financial institution may take up to 10 days to reflect this in your account.
If you require further information, please contact your bank or financial institution.
I noticed a charge that does not seem right
To help you understand what each trip charge looks like on your bank statement, we have broken it down into four categories. Please refer to this page for more information on the different categories.
Why has my temporary hold failed?
This will be related to one of two reasons:
- You do not have sufficient funds in your account; or
- There is a potential banking issue, in which we suggest you contact your financial institution
